What is the Prostate Cancer Counselling Service?
The Prostate Cancer Counselling Service (PCCS) is Australia’s only specialised nationwide counselling service for men with prostate cancer, their partners and families and anyone else who has been affected by prostate cancer.
You can access the service at any point of the prostate cancer experience – whether you are newly diagnosed, 10-years post treatment, or struggling to cope with the diagnosis of a loved one.
How can the PCCS help you?
We can help you adjust to the challenges of diagnosis, treatment, and life after treatment.
The types of psychological and emotional issues we can assist you with include but are not limited to stress management, coping with sexual concerns, overcoming worry and uncertainty, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, and coping with loss.
How do you access the PCCS?
Call 1800 22 00 99 and talk to one of our PCFA nurses about a referral
Email a nurse at [email protected]
Once we receive your referral, it may take around two business days for us to contact you and schedule your first appointment. Your first call will be with a PCFA nurse who will talk to you more about your situation and arrange an appointment with a counsellor for you.
Health professionals who wish to refer a patient to the service may complete the Health Professional’s Counselling Request Form at: https://www.pcfa.org.au/support/prostate-cancer-counselling-service/health-professional-counselling-request-form/ or call 1800 22 00 99.
Is the PCCS suitable when you are in crisis or need urgent support?
The PCCS is unable to provide a crisis intervention service. Should you need emotional support between sessions, please contact your GP or one of the following organisations for assistance:
- Lifeline 131114
- MensLine 1300 78 99 78
- Beyond Blue 1300 2246 36
In the event of an emergency always dial 000.
For between-session support regarding prostate cancer-specific medical or practical issues you can call our PCFA Telenursing Service on 1800 22 00 99 or at [email protected].
